Keith green songs for the shepherd album9/19/2023 ![]() ![]() Melody continued Last Days Ministries and two posthumous albums were released, “The Prodigal Son” in 1983 and “Jesus Commands Us To Go” in 1984, made up of previously recorded material. The plane crashed shortly after take-off, dangerously overloaded. There were 11 passengers plus the pilot on the plane, including Keith and two of his children. In July 1982 friends came to visit on their way back East and Keith took them for an aerial tour of the property in a plane Last Days Ministries had leased. The Greens had moved to Texas on a 140 acre property. He released two more albums under this system, “The Keith Green Collection” in 1981 and “Songs For The Shepherd” in 1982, just a few months before his death. By May of 1982 they had shipped over 200,000 copies of the album, 61,000 for free. They sold it through mail order and at concerts. Keith and Melody mortgaged their home to finance his next album, “So You Wanna Go Back To Egypt,” which came out in 1980. The next year Keith negotiated a release from his contract with Sparrow and established a policy of offering his albums and concerts for free or whatever fans could afford. His second album, “No Compromise,” came out in 1978. His first album, “For Him Who Has Ears To Hear,” was released in 1977 and met with a good deal of success. But God called him back to music and Keith soon signed with the fledgling Sparrow Records. Once Keith had dedicated his life to Jesus he walked away from music and his longtime dream of fame. This outreach led them to begin Last Days Ministries. They began to open up their home to others who were seeking truth and needed hope. In 1975 he discovered a relationship with Jesus and a week later Melody did too. When he was 19 he met Melody Steiner, the two married within a year and together continued their spiritual journey. Through his teens he struggled with rebellion and sought meaning. But his career fizzled, the records didn’t sell. ![]() He got his first recording contract at the age of 11.
